American Idol: Adam Lambert becomes my obsession
May 13th 2009 12:46
So, this evening, I did something I've never done before...I voted on a contestant for American Idol.
I've never paid much attention to this show in it's past seasons. I only watched the last season to be able to discuss the results with my mother, who is crazy for those Idol kids.
But this year, I have been compelled to watch every episode. The reason? Adam Lambert.
Adam is different than any other contestant on Idol. He has his own style, swagger, sexy, almost smarmy attitude. The sensual and somewhat sleazy way that he carries himself reminds me of the rock idols from the past. He's mysterious and alluring, and most of all...the boy can SING!
With his hips swiveling and his high falsetto screams, I feel like swooning nearly every time I see him. He won me over by singing songs by Queen, Aerosmith, Steppenwolf, INXS....he nailed them all!
What I really like about Adam is that he puts such an incredible spin on songs that you would never expect. For example, during disco week, people were highly anticipating a flamboyant and outrageous performance from Lambert. Then, when it was revealed he was singing Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You", I was ready for him to just totally let loose and tear up the stage in his flashy way that he does so well. Instead, he gave us this.
Lord have mercy. Adam also did his take on one of my all time favorite songs, "Mad World" by Tears for Fears. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I gave a really great description to someone yesterday about how the song makes me feel, and now I can't remember what I said. It was such an apt description though, I don't want to ruin it by repeating it incorrectly. So for now, I will just say, I love this damn song.
And, while I worried about someone else singing it, Adam did it justice and then some. I was very moved by his version. I was moved to tears actually. I became the girl who cries at American Idol! In my defense, I'm kind of a crier in general!
GOOSE-BUMPS, right? Right. He is a star. He really is. Whether he wins or not, I will buy his album. But he must win or I will lose all faith in humanity! Check him out singing "Whole Lotta Love". I love his ballads, but this is the Adam style that won me over in the first place.
My favorite thing is how he is just a sexy dirty rock star, and then when he finishes, he just has this little boy smile on his face.
Last night were the final performances to determine the two people who would make it to the finale. Adam crushed the competition soundly! He sang "One" by U2. Special permission was granted by Bono to sing the song. He said that he'd be honored for Adam to sing it. Who knew Bono watched Idol?
So inspired was I about the performances, I was actually inspired to call in and vote. I know! I couldn't believe it either! I am not a "voting on American Idol" kind of gal, but this warranted the call. OK...callsss.
Check out the two performances from last night. Tonight we will find out if he makes it. I cannot wait!

I was going to quote some lyrics back to you, but you picked pretty much the only line in the song that isn't slightly inappropriate
Kristin,
Kris finally won me over with his rendition of Kanye's "Heartless" on the last performance show. I really have to admit that I loved it. Like I said, Adam isn't for everyone.
I think it is up in the air as to who is going to win. Lots of people are assuming that Adam has it in the bag, but I wouldn't be shocked by an upset. Kris has a lot of fans, and I think they said his home state of Arkansas has the highest percentage of voters next to California.
It's still anyone's game I think. I liked Danny too. When he sang, "You are so beautiful" I got so emotional. What a great version. And I think he did even better the second time he sang it on Wednesday night's show. As much as I was thrilled to see Adam make it to the final 2, I had tears streaming down my face when Danny sang his final song. What has become of me?
