"When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." ~Kahlil Gibran

I am an absolute Award Show junkie! I cannot help it. I look forward to this time of year with shivering anticipation. It is such a release from the sober state that my mind has been in of late.

Some people have blasted Hollywood for the frivolity in these uncertain times, but I don't mind it. Celebs are already completely out of touch, but their job is to entertain, and the Award shows are just part of that equation.

I must sheepishly admit that when I watch these ceremonies, I fantasize about what I would wear were I to be invited, and what I would say if I won. I would be gracious, of course, and I would cry and thank my parents and I would tell the haters to suck it! It is an escape from reality that I always appreciate.

Some of the best moments are the unscripted ones. When people just get up there with their mouths suitably unrestrained with the help of a few glasses (or bottles) of champagne.

One of my favorite spectacles of the night was Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange holding hands all evening and looking like a mother daughter set of hot messes.

Micky Rourke's acceptance speech was moving. Particularly when he thanked his dogs. He said, "Sometimes when a man is alone, that's all you've got is your dog." How can you not get misty over a statement like that!

Incidentally, go see "The Wrestler" if you can. It is heart breaking and inspiring and beautiful.

Speaking of misty moments, Heath Ledger's posthumous award for "The Dark Knight" left not a dry eye in the house.

Another highlight for me was Ricky Gervais walking on stage with a beer in his hand, telling all the celebs in the audience that they were a rude bunch! I wish I could have given him a high five! He made a few waves with his joke about Kate Winslet's win for "The Reader", but I thought it was funny. People need to lighten up! Gervais said, "Well done Winslet. I told you, do a Holocaust movie and the awards come, didn't I? Trouble is with Holocaust films is there's never any gag reel on the DVDs."

What people didn't get is that this was a direct reference to an appearance Winslet made on Ricky's show "Extras", where Kate poked fun at herself, joking about making a movie depicting the Nazi's slaughter of the Jewish people during World War II in order to guarantee her an award.

Sascha Baron Cohen made a few people squirm in their seats as he made fun of some of the elite entertainers not in attendance.

"This recession is affecting everyone, even celebrities. Victoria Beckham hasn't eaten for three weeks. Charlie Sheen has been forced to have sex without paying for it. Even Madonna has had to get rid of one of her personal assistants. Our thoughts go out to you, Guy Ritchie." said Cohen.

I was so thrilled for Kate Winslet and her two wins. She is one of my all time favorite actresses. But, my favorite Kate moment of the night was when she was thanking the other nominees, and forgot about miss Angelina Jolie...gasp! "I'm so sorry Anne, Meryl, Kristin - and who's the other one? (uncomfortable pause) Angelina. Now forgive me, is this really happening?" Loved it!

Other moments of note: Colin Farrell getting the sniffles and pointing out that it was from a cold..not from what he used to do! Tina Fey telling her online critics to "suck it" by name! and Tracy Morgan accepting the award for "30 Rock". Morgan said, "Tina Fey and I had an agreement that if Barack Obama won, I would speak for the show from now on. Welcome to post-racial America! I am the face of post-racial America. Deal with it Cate Blanchett!"

Check out the video below of funny clips from the ceremony.
