Coming to terms with one's own immaturity

July 23rd 2009 03:56
As I do believe I've discussed before, and likely is evidenced by a variety of my posts.... I've got a rather strange sense of humor. While at times I like sarcasm and witty banter, other times my mind is planted square in the gutter. And it isn't just the dirty jokes that I love. I sadly find myself laughing hysterically at the most juvenile of gags.

I've accepted this. I've embraced it. But sometimes....sometimes I catch myself off guard with my own immaturity. You'd really think I have the mentality of a teenage boy at times.

Case in point. Have you seen the trailer for that new 3D animated movie G-Force? The one about the little rodents that are apparently some kind of secret agents? Well, the first time I saw it, was when I was at the movie UP, which I cannot recommend highly enough by the way, and I recall thinking, "Man. That looks really stupid." And I didn't give it another thought.

Until a few days ago. The commercial for this kid's movie is on TV now constantly, and I have been tuning it out. Actually, I'm a total channel flipper. If I'm watching a show, and it goes to commercial, I cannot be bothered to watch them, so I flip until I find something else that interests me, which generally makes me forget about what I was watching previously, and then I get pissed.

Aaaannnyway, so one day I was watching TV with a friend (I won't tell you what we were watching because that would be a whole new embarrassment) and the G-Force commercial came on. She HATES channel flipping, so I was forced to watch it. That's when it happened.

Yes, I still think the movie looks pretty dumb. But, there is one part in the trailer where this guinea pig is being held in the air by some person, and he says, "What should I do?" Switch to a cage full of mice who chant in unison, "Poop in his hand! Poop in his hand!"

This sent me into a fit of hysterics like I haven't experienced in a long time. I was laughing so hard, I could barely contain myself. As my friend looked at me with a perplexed and somewhat disdainful gaze, I wiped the tears from my face and managed to compose myself. Yup, this is the high brow humor that only a true sophisticate like myself could truly appreciate!

Here's the trailer. The Poop joke is at the very end.

You cannot tell me that's not at least a little bit funny!

Here are a couple of other stupid things that made me giggle.

Gotta love truth in advertising!

Ah shucks, maturity is for old folk. These were fun, and I enjoyed every minute. Immaturity, if fun, I'm sticking to that forever.

Thanks

I saw Up in 3D yesterday. Very enjoyable, but not quite as amazing as I thought it might be. I had very high (pun unintended) expectations. The movie wasn't as sophisticated as The Incredibles, and not as moving, or as profound as WALL-E, and I didn't find it as funny as Monsters vs Aliens, but I do love Pixar movies. Actually Monsters vs Aliens isn't Pixar is it ..?
As for maturity? I'm 40-going-on-23.

Janice, I love your attitude! Sometimes I wonder about myself though. I mean, give me a good butt joke and you're pretty much guaranteed to get a laugh out of me! Also, I'm seriously not above mooning people. I take immaturity to a whole new level sometimes

Bryn, oh I thought Up was great. But then, I hadn't really heard much about it, so I didn't know what to expect. It was touching. You're right though. Not as moving as Wall-E. I don't know if anything could come close to that. I haven't seen Monsters vs. Aliens! I want to, though.

I'm 31 going on 16!

I thought that was so funny too, Morgan. Makes the look in that woman's eye seem very sinister!

I still think fart jokes are funny and if someone does anlmighty burp I fall about laughing. Now that's immaturity.

I'll just be honest...if someone is bold enough to fart around me, I am not going to be able to be a lady and ignore it. It is physically impossible for me to do so. I will laugh. I laugh at things that sound like farts. I might even laugh if you squeeze a ketchup bottle too tight and it makes that farty noise.

A good belch is always good for a snort too! Not that I snort when I laugh. But if I did, that would be amusing too! Hahahaha! No wonder I get along so well with my younger brother!

Sometimes, we should show our humor to the people, but it must be in the right manner and right places! Don't act like a fool, as no one loves to be friend with a dumb, isn't it, Natalina?

You're right, Wilson. It is important that you don't act silly all the time. My nonsilliness takes over when I'm with my grandmother, I'm in church, or someplace fancy (well, I try anyway!). But my friends all know how I am, and I generally gravitate toward people who are like minded
