Need a Cure for the Economic Crisis? Give Gay Marriage a Try!
December 4th 2008 00:00
This is positively one of the greatest pieces of video I've seen in a while.
The folks at Funny or Die have posted a fantastic piece called, "Proposition 8: The Musical". And it is fabulous!
The video features an all-star cast in a musical number designed to resemble a high school play. Allison Janney and John C. Reilly play a couple of stuffy, right-wing politicians fighting against a group in favor of gay marriage, led by Andy Richter and Margaret Cho.
One of the highest points in the video is Jack Black appearing as Jesus. "Friend, to me it seems you pick and choose," Jack sings. "Well please choose love instead of hate -- besides your nation was built on separation of church and state."
Neil Patrick Harris also stars, informing the politicians that there is money to be made by gay marriage, and the eventual resolution is that "Gay Marriage will save the Economy!"
"Prop 8 - The Musical" was conceived and written by the Oscar-nominated Marc Shaiman (South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut), and directed by Hairspray's Adam Shankman. Also stars SNL alum Maya Rudolph, Rashida Jones, daughter of Quincy Jones, and many others.
Brilliant!
